A Soldier's Story, William U. Baker, 41st OVI and 139th Ohio Infantry

Subject

United States -- History -- Civil War, 1861-1865

Description

This is a story about William U. Baker from Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio who served first in Company I, 41st OVI and later with Company K 139th Regiment, Ohio National Guard Infantry and includes a picture of William in his uniform soon after he entered the 41st. William fought and was badly wounded at the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing and this story is basically about what happened to William as a result of his injury. Much of the information is taken from documents in his pension file and unknown to his ancestors until we were able to get copies of the file. William was my husband's great-grandfather, one of three of his who served in different OVI units. I wrote this for both our children and my husband's two nephews so that they would know about their great-great grandfather's service to his country.
