Eagles on Their Buttons: A Black Infantry Regiment in the Civil War
ISBN 978-0-8262-1234-4
This book is an easy read but is informative, providing the history of the 5th US Colored Infantry / 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Thank you for the suggestion! This book will help we create an online exhibit about the 5th USCT. If anyone has any more suggestions (books, websites, etc.) for resources on African-American troops, please let me know.

There was also the 27th USCI that formed in 1864, but to my knowledge there were no books written about it. I have never been there to see them but I believe Oberlin College has Colonel Shurtleff's letters and other materials.

There is also an excellent website maintained by Paul LaRue's Senior Research History class at Washington High School in Washington Court House.
See this link: http://usctohio.org/
Follow their links under "Contact Us" back to the school, and to several of their other websites.

My great, great grandfather was a member of the 127th Colored Infantry. I'm interested in reading 'Eagles on Their Buttons: A Black Infantry Regiment'. Where are copies available?
