There is a new opportunity fo an event that hopefully will become an annual event in Trotwood Ohio near Dayton.    "Pioneer Harvest Fest" has been ongoing for 13 years and is an event where they have been bringing turn of the century farming equipment etc.   It is hosted at the Iams Homestead (Family that started Iams Dogfood) and typically will average a crowd of 1200- 1500 people, this is a one day event from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with family entertainment.   They have elected to start adding a Civil War era theme, the house was originally built in 1847 and was one of the Underground RR safe houses.    They are looking at the possibility of   making this an annual event with Living History & re-enactors from 1850's to the Civil war period.   They want to start doing an event in the Spring & Fall, and has the possibility to cultivate into a nice program.   There is a lot of space that can be planned for in the future, expanding into a nearby park.

Attending this year will be Steve Ball (Civil War guitarist) http://www.steveballcivilwarmu…..m/home.cfm     and   Tim Twiss http://minstrelbanjo.ning.com/…..e/TimTwiss (Civil War Banjo) they will be doing Civil War era musical performances.   Please let me know if any of your group would be able to participate as soon as possible.

Persons attending the event at Dayton might be interested to know that George Crook was born near Dayton at Taylorville on the Little Miami.  U of Oklahoma Press has recently published my work on Crook's early life in Ohio and his career up through the end of the Civil War.  It is entitled George Crook, from the Redwoods to Appomattox, and is available from the Press or at Amazon or Barnes & Nobles websites.  I think you will enjoy it.  Paul Magid
