Hello,
Thanks for such a great resource here! I found your site looking for information pertaining to Mount Vernon, Ohio and it's role during the Civil War.
I was wondering if you had any specific resources you could offer up about historical figures from Mount Vernon that made an impact on the war? Or perhaps point me in a general direction? I am working on putting together a more centralized area on our website http://www.mountvernonlinks.com so folks can quickly locate some facts about the importance of our city and its influence on the war.
Thank you in advance for your help and keep up the great work here!
Hello,
Try checking the Ohio Historical Marker website: http://www.remarkableohio.org/. You might be able to find markers about CW figures in your area. Also check: http://library.cincymuseum.org…..s7help.htm and http://www.ohiohistorycentral……p?rec=1954.
We have had a few CW events from the area posted on our website in the past year and I've pasted a couple below. They might give you some contacts to start with.
Knox County Historical Society event:
- Join the Knox County Historical Society for a program on “Buckeyes in the Confederacy”. John Morgan will lead a presentation about Centerburg-born Brig. General Daniel H. Reynolds and other Ohioans who served in the Confederate ranks during America’s Civil War.
Elixir/Knox County Heritage Center:
- The Knox County Lyceum Series presents Ric Sheffield who will consider the black press during Ohio’s early history. From the premiere of Freedom’s Journal in 1827, the black press has served a crucial role for African-Americans. It has been a means of resistance against discrimination and oppression and a transmitter of culture. This program discusses the important role of Ohio’s black newspapers at the turn of the last century and their impact in shaping today’s “race” publications.
