On September 15, 2012, to commemorate the life of its original owner, The Castle will host “Colonel Melvin Clarke Day.” Civil War displays will be available on the Castle grounds as well as throughout the house. At 2pm, Sons of Union Veterans Past Camp Commander Marvin Miracle will present “West Virginia in the Civil War,” detailing the history of that state’s struggle to join the Union. At 3pm, Castle Director Scott Britton will present “Antietam: America’s Bloodiest Day.” The day will conclude with a concert by Civil War guitarist Steve Ball, as he sings and explains the history behind the Civil War’s most popular songs, two of which have direct ties to Marietta. Which ones? Join us to find out! All presentations are free. Concert tickets are $12.50 for adults, $11.25 for members, or $10.00 for students. Reservations are suggested as seating is limited.
