The program will cover highlights from both books; THE LINCOLN INAUGURAL TRAIN as well as THE LINCOLN FUNERAL TRAIN by noted author Scott Trostel from Miami County. Of local interest, will be a summary of President-elect Lincoln’s 1861 stay in Cincinnati on the date of his 52nd birthday, en route to Washington, plus the trip up the Little Miami Railroad for a planned noon meal stop at Xenia. This via a re-route as Lincoln had originally planned to pass through Dayton on the way to Columbus. The historic journey of the funeral train of 1865 will be presented. It made a number of stops across the northern Miami Valley at Urbana, St. Paris, an engine change at Piqua, then continued through Bradford, Greenville, New Madison and New Paris. Other interesting events and incidents along both routes will be discussed.
Both titles will be available at the program.
An announcement about the recreation of the Lincoln Funeral Train for the 2015 commemoration of the Lincoln assassination will be made at the program.
