“Architreks/Cincinnati Walks” presents “Cincinnati in the Civil War,” two walking tours commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the commencement of the Civil War with the firing on Fort Sumter April 12, 1861, and a look at the people and places of Cincinnati associated with the War Between the States.
The approximately two-hour tours will be given on consecutive Saturdays in April. Tour One will include sites in Downtown & the Riverfront and will take place on April 9, at 10:00 a.m. and departs from Fountain Square along Vine Street. Tour Two will include sites in Downtown & Over the Rhine and will take place on April 16, at 10:00 a.m. and departs from the Coffee Emporium.
In addition to the many sites seen and discussed along the route, the first tour will include stops at St. Francis Xavier Church and the Mercantile Library. The second tour will include stops at Covenant First Presbyterian and Memorial Hall. Other people, places and events we will discuss include, for instance, the Defense of Cincinnati and the Black Brigade, the planning of Sherman’s March at the Burnet House, and future Mayor Markbreit’s incarceration in a Confederate prison.
Details: Tickets are $10.00 and reservations are not required. The tours can be taken separately as some information will overlap. But generally they are designed to be complimentary of each other and present a different focus of discussion.
