Samuel Gardener was the gatekeeper on The Erie Canal in Coshocton, Ohio during the Civil War. Christopher Hart, Researcher and Curator from Historic Roscoe Village will relate stories he discovered that Gardener told of what was happening in Civil War Ohio including a man from Ohio who happened to be at Ford’s Theatre the night Lincoln was assassinated, chased after Booth and made a wrong turn, ending up in the ladies dressing room by mistake.
Remembering the Civil War- 150 Years Later
The lyceum series presents lectures, plays and presentations aimed at bringing quality, family friendly programing that provides history beyond that found in text books. The programs, which take place on the first Friday of every month, are presented in association with Mount Vernon Heritage Centre and First Friday’s.
